Seaton & Colyton Medical Practice is pleased to announce the launch of a new Minor Injuries Service, now available to anyone living in Seaton and the surrounding villages—not just registered patients.
The service is strictly for minor injuries sustained within the past 48 hours only. It is not intended for illness or longer-term conditions, which should continue to be managed through patients’ registered GP practices or other usual healthcare routes.
Seaton & Colyton Medical Practice has long sought to expand local urgent care provision in Seaton. Since taking on the role of Practice Manager three years ago, efforts have been ongoing to explore ways of delivering a local minor injuries service. Despite strong community need and the presence of a community-built hospital in Seaton, suitable hospital space was not available to support this initiative.
Following engagement with the Integrated Care Board (ICB), approval was finally granted for the practice to deliver the service from its own premises. As existing clinical rooms are already in high demand, additional funding and support were secured to convert back-office space into a new clinical treatment room.
This development was made possible in part through a grant linked to the practice’s role as a training practice for medical students. Local businesses also played a key role in supporting the project, with several contributing time, services, and discounted work to help bring the new facility into use.
In particular, Howdens Joinery generously supplied all kitchen units and materials free of charge, enabling the creation of a fully equipped clinical preparation and storage area within the new treatment room.
